The legendary athlete passed away on Monday evening during treatment, after being critically injured in a road accident near his village in Punjab. He was 114 years old, and globally admired for his remarkable fitness, unwavering spirit, and disciplined lifestyle. As per reports, Fauja Singh went for his usual afternoon walk around 3:30 PM along the Pathankot-Jalandhar National Highway, near Beas Pind village. While crossing the road, he was struck by a speeding car, resulting in serious injuries. Immediately following the accident, the driver absconded from the spot. Some local youths spotted Fauja Singh lying injured on the roadside and rushed him to Shriman Hospital in Jalandhar.

Hospitalization and Sudden Demise

At the hospital, doctors discovered that his left ribs were fractured, his spine had suffered serious trauma, and there was a deep head injury due to the fall. According to Gurpreet Singh, a village panchayat member who assisted in getting Fauja Singh to the hospital, “He was conscious when we admitted him. He was talking and responding to the doctors. They were hopeful of recovery. But sadly, around 6:30 PM, we received the heartbreaking news of his passing. It is a huge loss for the village.”

Severe Head Injury Proved Fatal

Stepped Out After Tea, as Usual

According to family members, Fauja Singh had just had tea and stepped out for his daily walk. His home is located right next to the highway. He also owned some land across the road, part of which was leased to a roadside dhaba. He often crossed the road to visit the dhaba during his walk and interacted with locals.
